The real difference

Pimsleur is audio-first — you learn Chinese by listening and repeating, not by looking at anything. It's genuinely good for pronunciation and commute-learning. But if you want to read a menu, a WeChat message, or a street sign, you need to see the characters. Jersey Zhongwen is the opposite: video-first, character-first, with speaking drills on top. Use Pimsleur if you're trying to be a tourist. Use Jersey Zhongwen if you're trying to be literate.

Pick Pimsleur Chinese if

You commute and want to learn during drive time, you only care about spoken Chinese, or you specifically prefer the Pimsleur audio method.

Pick Jersey Zhongwen if

You want to read and write characters, you want a real teacher on camera, and you'd rather own the course for $88 than rent Pimsleur at $20/month.
